Self-Harm Support

At Arts 2 Heal, we recognize that self-harm is often a deeply private and complex issue that affects many individuals. Those who engage in self-harm may hesitate to seek conventional support for a variety of reasons, including the overwhelming distress they experience, a belief in their ability to manage their feelings independently, or a perception that current services do not adequately address their mental wellbeing. Consequently, treating self-harm clinically can be a significant challenge.

Our approach at Arts 2 Heal focuses on fostering an art therapy environment that is compassionate, non-judgmental, and engaging. Here, individuals can explore their emotions and thoughts without the need to resort to self-harm. Instead of examining the underlying reasons for self-harm, participants are encouraged to channel their feelings and reflections into artistic expression. They evaluate their satisfaction levels and experiences with various artistic techniques, processes, approaches, and styles. This creative process is inherently healing, promoting change and personal growth through art within a safe and supportive atmosphere.

Our projects are thoughtfully designed to enhance emotional resilience, self-acceptance, responsibility, and self-control. We aim to help individuals unburden themselves, accepting what they cannot change and realizing that self-harm is not their only means of coping.

In line with promoting social inclusion, our community-based projects are particularly valuable for those who, due to the symptoms or consequences of self-harm, have become disconnected from their socio-economic environments. Participating in our art projects not only provides opportunities for personal growth but also fosters connections with fellow participants and the broader community.
